Hekla worked previously as the assistant manager of the construction company Bygg Ben ehf. Between 2002 and 2005 she worked in corporate action for Arion Custody Services hf, and prior to that in custody services for Kaupthing hf. Hekla completed her matriculation from Fjölbrautaskólinn í Breiðholti and has studied education and social sciences at the University of Iceland. Hekla is very interested in supporting children and child support activities.
