Maria has over 10 years of experience in the financial sector where she has gained a breadth of experience as an operations officer and the first CFO of Kaupthing Bank. She has been in leadership roles from the back office and custody divisions, to accounting and IT projects. Most recently she had the role of a business architect in the project office and as an IFRS specialist. She started her career in the audit firm Coopers & Lybrand, first in Iceland and later in Denmark. She was the CFO of the Icelandic Coast Guard before she joined Kaupthing Bank.

Maria is a certified public accountant and holds a candi oecon. degree from the University of Iceland.

Maria has been a boardmember of Frjalsi Pension Fund, Kaupthing Savings Bank, EIK Real Estate and a substitute member of the board of Kaupthing Bank.

María is at her best and beams with enthusiasm when she gets to reconciliation, tracking down errors or finding solutions to difficult accounting problems. But her heritage from the Westfjords of Iceland also comes out when she spends time with her family in the remote Jokulfirdir, goes skiing with the children or simply stays at home with her friends knitting. Maria is extremely proud of her two daughters who completely capture her heart.
